The dream of Don Ricardo de Santiago, a native of Benavente (Zamora), came true in 1997 thanks to his efforts to promote a wine culture. The Golden Mile from the Ribera del Duero, in Peñafiel, witnessed the birth of Tamaral that same year.
Initially the founders, after many years of success in the textile sector, founded the wine company with a group of partners,
including agronomists, or even the former president of the Oenological Station of Rueda, Pascual Herrera, who would in turn become the first winemaker of the winery.

Later, Don Ricardo and Doña Carmen decided to take full control of the company and acquired 100% of it.
The history of Tamaral is intimately linked to the area of the river Órbigo, in Benavente (Zamora), the birthplace of Don Ricardo de Santiago. In fact, Tamaral gets its name from a woodland populated with ash trees on the bank river Órbigo. A place called El Tamaral. The first harvest took place in the year Tamaral was created, although cultivation actually began in the 90s. And so began of a life dedicated to wine.
We have expanded the facilities and modernise our systems. The new winery building have a large tasting room, production area, cask cellar, warehouse, shop and the most modern technology to continue producing high-quality wines. This project will provide Bodegas y Viñedos Tamaral with optimum efficiency to produce its quality wines and allow it to welcome anyone who wants to get to know the winery.
Tamaral celebrated in 2022 its 25th anniversary with the opening of the new winery. Two generations have been part of Tamaral’s history and soon there will be a third one knocking on the door.
The history of Tamaral cannot be understood without explaining why it was started. It was created to produce crianzas and reservas. Over the years, the winery has turned its focus to the production of estate wines, which follow more demanding DO protocols regarding its production and Tamaral’s most important ingredient, the grape.
All wines are made with 100% tempranillo, a variety of red grape grown in the Rioja and Ribera del Duero region to produce full-bodied red wines from Spain, where the variety originates. Over the years we have developed various types of wines, adapting the vine to the different types of soils and plots that we have on our estate.
Our Story
P H I L O S H O P H Y
Our winery remains faithful to its founding values, contributes to the progress and welfare of society and is committed to quality and innovation without forgetting the wine tradition of our ancestors
Tamaral has been guided by its philosophy and values since the first vintage rolled out of its winery.
Almost 25 years developing these three concepts have given Tamaral some characteristics that make it unique. Its mission, since its creation, has been to put quality at the centre, an objective achieved thanks to the search for total control of the production process. Owning our vineyards makes all the difference.
The importance of EXCELLENCE over VOLUME
Each process is carried out with maximum care, from field to table.
Tamaral’s ideals inform the entire process, from logistics to commercial partners, leading the brand to excellence in the preparation and presentation of the final product.
In Tamaral, only a small number of hectares are worked, but with great dedication and attention to detail. Its current focus is to become an example of sustainability, focusing on organic production.
Currently present in international markets, Tamaral’s growth has been totally organic. This progress has gone hand in hand with the incorporation of new personnel, giving the winery a strong and enterprising structure.
Our Own
V I N E Y A R D S
Our greatest asset. We dedicate the utmost care, pampering and attention to them.
It begins with the selection of the vineyards based on the advice of experts in land composition to find the best locations, noted for their limited fertility and good drainage.
Ideal terrain
The vineyard strikes a balance between soil and plant to promote quality over quantity. By limiting production, the grapes are richer and more concentrated, which produces wines with good alcoholic strength, rich in colour, polyphenols, intensity, and aroma.
Plantation characteristics
Planting frames are used to expand the root system of the plant.
The vines are trained on trellises to achieve optimum maturation and health.
We do not use residual or phytosanitary substances that alter the vegetative phases of the vineyard.
